Cigar Box uke building DVD’s info and pic

Just to let everyone know who was interested about the cigar box ukulele
instructional DVD. I'm about 3/4ths of the way done recording it. I've
done all the main parts of the uke with only hand tools so you can follow
along even if you don't have the power tools. (if you do then more power
to you!) I'm also going to include a extra DVD with more advanced
features like inlay, binding the fretboard and headstock, headplates, and
such. They are actually going to be footage of a guitar, but it is just the
same ideas, just smaller basically.

I'll be taking pre-orders within a week or so right after I get through
filming it, and before I'm through editing it. Should cost like $20-$25 for
two DVD's packed with info. Let me know if you have any questions. Here
are some initial pics of the uke (I'm not done yet)

John,
Hope the DVD includes of list of parts that you will need and a list of tools that will be needed. That would make it easier to gather tools and parts to do the whole project. How long should it take to build one of these? Does is sound good?

yes it will include a bill of materials, as well as suppliers and places to get
the materials. It will also include a full size tracing of the neck profile,
fretboard, and headstock. They sound pretty decent. Not like a full
blown uke as the box is much thicker than what is normally on a uke, but
it is a fun novelty that is a blast to build and really fun to play.

John, I used to hang out in tobacco shop back in school. They were also making electric guitars out of cigar boxes. Waste not, want not

I'm almost done filming a new DVD that shows how to build cigar box
ukulele from start to finish in one set. The DVD's should be ready to edit
by this time next week and I hope to ship them by the end of next week.

Wicked cool Don. I've just got into the cigar boxes recently (about a year
or two ago) but they are fun to build and dog gonnit they are so fun to
play and look at!

Not trying to be a trouble maker, but why would anyone want to make a cigarbox uke rather than a "real" one? Is it that much easier or cheaper?

Good question joe. Couple reasons. Yes it is THAT much eaiser. I could
build it in one day...easy... Also they are a cool novelty. Think of
building a guitar, but not having to make a back or sides, no bending, no
joining no kerfing, no side braces, no back strip... they are super fun to
build and way cool to play.
